Is what you are eating daily predisposing you to Diabetes of the brain?
The answer is yes! What we eat daily is slowly causing all types of diseases and cancers for those of us living in the industrialized nations. We are getting high level of protein and fat from animal-based diet. If you pay close attention to your daily meals, you will notice that in almost every meal, the largest portion on your plate is some type of animal product. This is even more noticeable when you are eating out. The next time you go out to dinner, pay attention to the portion of meat on your plate. Type 2 diabetes is normally an adult disease but now it is hitting our children at an earlier age because of our animal-base diet. Many of our young people are obese and obesity lends itself to various health problems in our young population. The extensive research done in the "The China Study" strongly indicates that a diet of protein and fat from animals products are the cause of high incidence of diabetes in America. The study suggests that we eat more plant-based diet to avoid these diseases.
What is Alzheimer's?
Alzheimer's is associated with plaque and numerous tangles in the brain. Researchers have stated that Alzheimer's is a form of brain diabetes. The insulin in these individuals lacks the ability to stimulate the brain cells to metabolize sugar for the energy that it needs.
How is Alzheimer's like diabetes?
"These days, most people with diabetes have Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Basically, cells throughout the body become resistant to insulin signals. In an effort to encourage cells to take up more sugar from the blood, the pancreas increases the output of insulin. Imagine having to knock louder on a door to make the person inside open up and answer. The high levels of insulin could damage small blood vessels in the brain, and eventually lead to poor brain circulation. This problem could partly explain why Type 2 diabetes harms the brain. In Alzheimer's, the brain, especially parts that deal with memory and personality, become resistant to insulin". Quote from Dr. Suzanne DeLaMonte Neuropathologist, Rhode Island Hospital.
As I have mentioned in the previous two articles, our diet determines how long and how healthy we live. The choice is yours with every meal that you eat. You are truly what you eat. As I have stated in my previous articles, you and I need to eat more plant-based-products and less animal-based products to live a longer and healthier life.
As I continue to read "The China Study", the more I believe that we have to cut our intake of protein and fat from animal products in our daily diet. In the western world, we are consuming about 30% of our protein and fat from animal products, which is causing heart disease, cancers and now linked to Alzheimer's. We need to cut our consumption to about 10% of our protein and fat coming from animal-based products to avoid theses diseases. Let's eat more fruits and vegetables and live longer and healthier. Remember that diet alone is not enough to live a healthy life; you need to incorporate 20 to 30 minutes of physical activity in your daily plan. To live well, you must eat well, sleep well and exercise.
I will share with you links that can give you more information that can help you live a longer and a healthier life:
As I have stated before in other articles; for you and I to live well, we must constantly watch what we feed our body and our mind. Living well is a holistic approach to our health. As I continue to read "The China Study", I am more positive that eating more fruits and vegetables and cut the amount of animal-based products will aid us in living longer and healthier life. We want to get most of our protein and fat from plant-based products to live well and avoid the dreaded disease of Alzheimer's.
You don't have to take my word for it, just read the book (The China Study) and check out the information from Dr. DelaMonte at doctoroz.com.
